We are family-owned farm nestled among the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains of Albemarle County, Virginia in the little town of Schuyler. Located just 30 minutes south of Charlottesville, we are also within easy driving distance of Richmond, Lynchburg, Washington D.C., and Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill. The surrounding area boasts a wealth of attractions and activities including vineyards, caverns, hiking, local fine dining, craft breweries, skiing, and historic sites.
The farmhouse
Hebron Hill is situated on over one hundred acres of mixed woods and pasture. It was established in 1952 as a place of refuge and regeneration, open to people from all walks of life. Over the years, this has been a gathering place for celebrations, reunions, and relationship-building. This place has also served as a respite for many who have sought the solace of its gently rolling fields, forests, and flowing water. In this tradition, the property will be made available for public use by groups, events, and individuals.
Emerging research indicates that intentional time in nature provides myriad health benefits and has been shown to reduce stress, promote resilience, and enhance vitality. Committed to preserving Hebron Hill's legacy as a place of healing, rest, and renewal, we have partnered with the nonprofit Schuyler Springs, Inc. in order to offer affordable access and accommodations to those seeking a space of solace and peace.
The Property
An abundance of wildlife, native ferns, mosses, trees, and wildflowers provide a soothing environment for retreat and regeneration. With 20 acres cleared for sustainable agricultural practices, the majority of the property remains pristinely forested, laced with streams, springs, and trails.
Conservation of the valued flora, fauna, and habitat found here is a priority. We are dedicated to preserving the unique biodiversity found on our property and have taken steps to protect our property through a conservation easement with the Virginia Department of Forestry.
Renovations & Restorative Agroforestry
Our owners have brought a new level of vitality to the property, making improvements with minimal disruption to the surrounding landscape and the overall character of the property. Structural and mechanical improvements to the original 4BR 2BA farmhouse were completed in 2018 including engineered repairs, HVAC, insulation, and electrical wiring, partial roof replacement, and installation of soapstone counters from the local Schuyler Quarry. A second open-concept dwelling with separate new septic built in 2019 is extraordinarily versatile. It has 2 full baths, with an ADA accessible bath on 1st floor and kitchenettes on both levels. Hardwired fiber optic internet was (finally!!!) installed in 2023, making this the perfect place to work remotely, or host group retreat gatherings. There is also an additional building site approved for an 800sf cabin.
The entire property is held in a forestry conservation easement with the Virginia DOF, the timber stands are managed under a forest stewardship plan. In partnership with the James River Association, a 5 acre riparian buffer restoration began in 2019. Over 500 seedlings have been planted and tended, including many native edibles such as mulberry, pawpaw, sugar maple, and redbud. A permaculture plan, developed by the local boutique firm Dialogue + Design, has been gradually implemented over the past decade. This includes fruit trees (peach, pear, apple, plum, pomegranate, persimmon), berries (in addition to the wild mountain blueberries found in the forest - cultivated blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries), asparagus, herbs, hügelkultur.
Natural beauty abounds as we strive to preserve the environment for creatures great and small… Indian paintbrush, minnows, sycamore, deer, whippoorwills, salamander, newt, crayfish, sassafras
